It’s kinda tacky to talk about wedding gifts, but I am going to write about it anyways, because I couldn’t care less.
About a week ago, I received an email from my good friend who’s lived in Portland, OR for a few years now. He wanted my mailing address. I gave him my parents as it’s most easy for larger packages to go there as I am not 100% comfortable with packages with important goods being left on my porch. It’s quite exciting getting any gifts from Jamie. He’s the master of gift giving.
The package came Thursday and my parents held it until today when we met them in Cambridge, MD for our walkthrough with our new caterer. Oh yeah, and we also got our marriage license. FYI, if you are ever getting a wedding license in Dorchester County, don’t bother bringing ID or a Passport of a Social Security card. They don’t check it. I think next time I am going to marry Michael Jackson and McCauley Culkin. It would be so special. Oh yeah and don’t even think about bringing a cell phone in the building. Security will rough you up. I think the State Department missed the boat on that security breach. Wow. Damn city folk.
So the package was delivered to us. Touchdown. We were totally not sure what to expect other than it was:
- Not on one of our registries
- Something “we could use on our honeymoon”
We finally opened up the main box when we got home after agonizing about it in the car. I could tell from opening the first set of boxes that each of the 3 boxes felt about the weight of 20 CDs or something of the sort. Remarkable. We uncovered 60+ Frank Zappa CDs. Pretty much his entire catalog of the 1993 FZ approved (just before he died) Rykodisc reissues including the Mothers of Invention’s records, The 6 double disc “You Can’t Do That On State” series, Lumpy Gravy‘s “Conceptual Continuity” and the Guitar series. Yes, and Lather & Uncle Meat. I am having a brain orgasm. I don’t know what to do. I can’t figure out what to listen to first. Or second. Or third. Or fourth. Or fifth. So I put them in chronological order based on release date. I am also happy that it’s Frank Zappa and not say Phillip Glass or someone else that I really like that Emily isn’t necesarily so keen on as it’s a gift for both of us. So, it’s a good thing she’s in to the Zappa, too. Yay!
Jamie always gets us the best gifts. He topped himself this time. It’s going to be hard, if not impossible to beat this one. Jamie, are you an incredible man. Regardless of the gift. I can’t wait to meet Kim. And congrats about YOUR engagement.
Oh and I think one of the forgotten joys of Weddings are receiving the RSVPs. It’s quite exciting. The anticpation is wonderous. I only wish we could have invited everyone we know to share this special day with us. If only we were rich, too. Poop.
