I shudder at the thought of having to compile my ten fave Beatles tracks. I know my favorite album is the White Album, followed by Abbey Road, Let It Be, Revolver, and Sgt. Pepper (except for White, in no particular order). Can't forget Rubber Soul . . . this is already too hard! And I bet you have changed your mind by now! No takebacks!

Oh Mat, you really opened something here! "It's All Too Much" is one of my favourite "least popular" tunes from the catalog (if that's even possible... it IS the Beatles) and I commend you for recognizing such a simple and amazing song. It's pretty impossible for me to pick only ten (songs at that!) as anything produced during 1965-1968 (i.e. from "Help" to "The White Album") are absolutely perfect (to me anyway). To make things easier, here are ten that pop in my head as I type (today 8/01/07):

1. I Will- Beautiful. As with most McCartney tunes, the way the melodies and chords interact with each other on top of the percussion brilliantly display the "simple-but-there's-so-much-going-on" aesthetic.

2. She Said She Said- Ringo's drums are transcendent. Those accents! George plays bass (you can tell); Paul is totally absent in this track.

3. And Your Bird Can Sing- A great track to put on a mix tape.

4. The Word- The guitar and drums once Lennon starts singing "In the beginning..."; if you hear it, YOU KNOW!!!

5. Everybody's Got Something to Hide- Oh man, this is pure exhilarating ROCK!!! The guitars are SICK.

6. Dear Prudence- MCCARTNEY!!! His drum parts (Ringo quit during the session) and his bass parts are perfect. I like the actual song but realized after hearing the demos with just John and acoustic guitar, Paul's parts made me LOVE the song.

7. You Won't See Me- There are certain songs that I would easily spend a whole night listening to over and over again on repeat. I know it's not healthy but for there are some songs that just give me that rise. This is one of them.

8. Getting Better- more McCartney performance madness.

9. Taxman- If your record starts off with something like this, you know you have something special.

10. Rain- Paul is freaking insane.

i can't stand when people get all music-nazi about the beatles... i suppose it's an indie crime to talk about them. so i'm all over this... heh
my earliest memory is listening to yellow submarine in my dad's yellow pontiac. i must have been about 3.... so i've been knowingly listening to them for nearly 31 years, but i'm positive i've been listening to them since conception.

i have to say though, rating beatles songs and choosing only 10 is fucking hard... ugh

1. i'm only sleeping -revolver
2. norwegian wood (this bird has flown) -rubber soul
3. i've just seen a face -help!
4. rain -b-side of paperback writer
5. two of us -let it be
6. eight days a week -beatles for sale
7. a day in the life -sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band
8. long long long -the white album
9. hello goodbye -magical mystery tour
10. yellow submarine -yellow submarine (earliest memory must be honored!)

i might change my mind in an hour! ;)
