does the kiss fit

Today was a busy day indeed. Basically for the past month (ie. since i started at DC101) the Marketing Manager and the Music Director have been working with this company with me that was recently acquired by the mother load company, ClearChannel Communications. This is the company that just acquired SFX. Anyways, this is all details…So anyways…basically we have been working for the past month to rip out a brand new site for the station. A redesign if you will. I was working with a few producers in L.A. to help this flow along more smoothly. I had to get input from the boss at DC101 and then some stuff that needed to be there from the boss at Clear Channel…I have learned to balance the two in a very quick amount of time. So anyways…we have been migrating from the old site to the new site and slowly propagating it. Actually, I have been doing all of the migration. Not happy about this, but I guess I am the best person to do this. This process was done at my former job and took almost a year and with a whole team. We are doing it in 2.5 days. Granted it’s a little bit smaller, but this is really making me proud. I am happy about the outcome. Of course it will take some more work and soon enough it will be more ironed out. Tomorrow at noon the new site will be live. In about a month it will be better than it was a month before. I am excited for this. Proud like Jesus. The real Black Jesus that is.

So I got home way after dinner and just had an Uncle Ben’s rice thing. It was yummy. I also had some left over sunchips from the weekend and a chocolate chip muffin from Bagel City. Then Mom and I watched a Kennedy Center honors program on my fellow Jew, Carl Reiner. Love that man. (Love his song’s work in Spinal Tap too!_ In fact most of the best comedians/comedy writers were Jews. Neil Simon, Mel Brooks, Sammy Davis Jr., Billy Crystal, & Jerry Seinfeld. And i guess you have to put Woody on there too. (Props Zander- If only you had tits) I don’t think he’s funny, but most goys seem to get a kick out of him. Anyways…it was really interesting to see Dick Van Dyke out there. It’s funny how I’d always chuckle about his first name when I was a kid. Now I chuckle when I hear his last name.

Speaking of Jews. Here is something from my new favorite book, The Big Little Book of Jewish Wit and Wisdom, Edited by Sally Ann Berk:

A lot of people say to me, “Why did you kill Christ?” “I dunno…it was one of those parties, got out of hand, you know.” “We killed him because he didn’t want to become a doctor, that’s why we killed him.”

Awapy?! Where are you and when are you getting yer tall ass back to the hood of ROCKville!

missionary position

ricky is costa rican, not filipino. Georgie ko tenga!Everyone has something special about themselves. Mine is my amazing attraction to Filipinos. Well, their amazing attraction to me.

I’m not kidding you! Out of four years in college, 3 roommates were Filipino! I love them! They are all psychotic, too! One didn’t ever wash dishes or take out the trash, but I can forgive him. Anyways.

Somehow one Friday night a few months ago I ended up at a karaoke place in Falls Church, Va. It is located in the basement of a restaurant. Needless to say, it is scary and enchanting at the same time. And also needless to say, it is owned by a Filipino family. It must be fate.

(It does employ a crazy Marine as a bouncer, though. Someone please tell me where there is a Marine base near Falls Church. He drives up from Quantico to work in a basement bar? Yikes. I’m also pretty sure he was attempting to slip roofies to people, but it could just be the paranoia talking. Beware of him and his impressive crewcut if you ever decide to patronize this establishment.)

I am considering making it my usual hangout. My new favorite song is by Cinderella and is entitled “Boypren ko tenga.” (That’s Filipino.) Since that Friday, the Significant Other has been dubbed the “Boypren” Why is this so funny? I don’t know. What I do know is that place was rockin’ when my friend Matt sang “Jack and Diane.”

Other stuff:

From my friend Mike:

2 notes on food:

1. There is a butter/margarine substitute called “Take Control”. Its
even-lower-fat counterpart is “Take Control Light”. Odd.
2. 2-liters of Diet Pepsi call Diet Pepsi “crisp”. Odd?

Also this, which I find much more amusing:

A snip from an article in a British music mag on songs that share chord structures. The following share up to 3 chords each:
The Verve “The Drugs Don’t Work”
Radiohead “Fake Plastic Trees”
Village People “YMCA”
Elvis Presley “Blue Moon”
The Housemartins “Happy Hour”
Natalie Imbruglia “Torn”

This must be sacrilege!

PS In the CD drive right now: Built to Spill’s “Keep it like a Secret.” I like it. Besides, Doug Martsch is from BOISE! He’s my homie. Also, word for the day is Colouphobic, (or something like that.) Go play on the O-M BBs. Then you can ask Daniel (ever-present in BB Land) what that means.

nice peeps

mat circa spring 2001 in the mirrorA young Jewish man calls his mother and says, “Mama, I’m bringing home a wonderful woman that I want to marry. She is a Native American and her name is – ‘Shooting Star.'” “How nice,” says his mother. “I have an Indian name too- it is ‘Sitting Bull.'” “You have to call me that from now on.” “How nice,” says his mother. “I have an Indian name now too, dear. Just call me “Sitting Shiva.”

Acquired CDs this weekend: Polvo celebrate the new dark age, New Order republic, Dinosaur Jr. BBC, The Delta 72 000 (thanks Jess), J Mascis and the Fog more light, Dub Narcotic Sound System Boot Party, Joy Division Closer. Yup that’s one major label CD!! And that one is New Order which is techincally only QUEST Records. They are only distributed by Warner Music. Blah Blah

This weekend was very rock. Chillin’ in south central Jersey man! Very cool. The Delta 72 was a great experience. I haven’t been to a really good show like that in a while. And it was a show because there was less than 150 people there. It was boarding on a seedy bar. And I could see the spit and sweat from the musicians on stage. Otherwise it’s a concert (ie. Enormo Dome). The opener for the Delta 72 was quite possibly the worst band ever known to mankind. They were called HEROIN STANK or something. Damn Philly band…hehe. They announced their band name after every song. They were so band they made me fart. The singer was even more annoying than the music. He wanted to be Scott Weiland, you know, that singer from Stone Temple Suck. Yeah, he really did! He was bare chested and wore a fur-type coat. And wore a Matt Dylan golfing hat. The only redeeming factor was the duct tape on the keyboards stand. That was pretty punk rock. Anyways…writing about this band is a little counter-productive so i will move on.

The Delta 72 was great. I had only heard their 2nd CD…but based on their JSBX/Stones/Blues-Revival/Soul riffs I knew they’d be energetic as all hell. They were. We got all the stereotypical rock kicks and jumps. The singer even got to his knees a few times. They brought back rock to the rock in rock. I missed that kind of rock. It made me want to rock in my own band more than ever. I felt that energy. I need to rock. Enquire within.

So in other news, just because I am the man of irony, I took home an MP3 player/recorder today from work. They had them sitting on the shelf near my desk and the player had been eye-ing me to take them home all last week. They were saying “Feed me communism!” Haha…I am going to give it to my Mother so she can use it for her classical music. She’ll get a kick out of it none the less.
I also found out today that one of my friends at DC101 also part-times at Bender Arena where Weezer is playing on friday in DC. So looks like I need not worry about not going! I was pissed that the cheesy alterna-rock station (not DC101) got dibbs on the station. I mean I guess it makes sense. But still. Who fucking cares anyways. I still get to see Weezer. Anyone else going? Anyone else have Jewish mother?
