mat circa spring 2001 in the mirrorA young Jewish man calls his mother and says, “Mama, I’m bringing home a wonderful woman that I want to marry. She is a Native American and her name is – ‘Shooting Star.'” “How nice,” says his mother. “I have an Indian name too- it is ‘Sitting Bull.'” “You have to call me that from now on.” “How nice,” says his mother. “I have an Indian name now too, dear. Just call me “Sitting Shiva.”

Acquired CDs this weekend: Polvo celebrate the new dark age, New Order republic, Dinosaur Jr. BBC, The Delta 72 000 (thanks Jess), J Mascis and the Fog more light, Dub Narcotic Sound System Boot Party, Joy Division Closer. Yup that’s one major label CD!! And that one is New Order which is techincally only QUEST Records. They are only distributed by Warner Music. Blah Blah

This weekend was very rock. Chillin’ in south central Jersey man! Very cool. The Delta 72 was a great experience. I haven’t been to a really good show like that in a while. And it was a show because there was less than 150 people there. It was boarding on a seedy bar. And I could see the spit and sweat from the musicians on stage. Otherwise it’s a concert (ie. Enormo Dome). The opener for the Delta 72 was quite possibly the worst band ever known to mankind. They were called HEROIN STANK or something. Damn Philly band…hehe. They announced their band name after every song. They were so band they made me fart. The singer was even more annoying than the music. He wanted to be Scott Weiland, you know, that singer from Stone Temple Suck. Yeah, he really did! He was bare chested and wore a fur-type coat. And wore a Matt Dylan golfing hat. The only redeeming factor was the duct tape on the keyboards stand. That was pretty punk rock. Anyways…writing about this band is a little counter-productive so i will move on.

The Delta 72 was great. I had only heard their 2nd CD…but based on their JSBX/Stones/Blues-Revival/Soul riffs I knew they’d be energetic as all hell. They were. We got all the stereotypical rock kicks and jumps. The singer even got to his knees a few times. They brought back rock to the rock in rock. I missed that kind of rock. It made me want to rock in my own band more than ever. I felt that energy. I need to rock. Enquire within.

So in other news, just because I am the man of irony, I took home an MP3 player/recorder today from work. They had them sitting on the shelf near my desk and the player had been eye-ing me to take them home all last week. They were saying “Feed me communism!” Haha…I am going to give it to my Mother so she can use it for her classical music. She’ll get a kick out of it none the less.
I also found out today that one of my friends at DC101 also part-times at Bender Arena where Weezer is playing on friday in DC. So looks like I need not worry about not going! I was pissed that the cheesy alterna-rock station (not DC101) got dibbs on the station. I mean I guess it makes sense. But still. Who fucking cares anyways. I still get to see Weezer. Anyone else going? Anyone else have Jewish mother?

can we be mature

annie mat gregIt’s SNOWING! For the first time in my life I am dreading the snow. The reason being that upon leaving work at 3pm today (the mega head honcho said ‘go home’) i hear on the radio that there is a 100 (yes, ONE HUNDRED) car pile-up on 95 South. That fucking sucks. The traffic lady said she would see people running from their cars in to the woods when they saw cars coming at them that couldn’t stop. That is fucking messed up. The 20-30 car pile ups all over 270 seemed like chum-change. It took me over an hour to get home and fearing my life at every intersection is not good. I feared most the asian women. They so should never be given licenses. Let alone out when it’s snowing! Of course there are exceptions, but damn, I saw at least two with rear-wheel drive cars. It’s like the blind leading the blind. Uh…stay clear! Oh yeah, and I had to clean the ice from my wipers at red lights three fucking times. I miss the days when snow meant days off from school and frozen fingers and sledding for hours and hot coco.

But my boys always pull through for me. When I got home i checked the mail and what is waiting for me, none other than a package from my friend Brian E. (e for the mutha fuckin’ man) Bailey. A.K.A. BEB. He’s the man…he copied me PhotoSuite which includes PhotoShop, Font Folio, Illustrator, PageMaker, PS Filters, and Streamline. Also in addition he copied me ACID. Who is the mofo man! The mofo man is BEB! All hail BEB! BEB 2004.

And thanks to the lovely Morgan, my Capitol Records Babe, I got dumped on (in the best of ways) for free promo CDs. I got the remastered John Lennon’s imagine, a Dandy Warhols’ ep with the cover Hells Bells by AC/DC, Tara Maclean live (?!), the Titan AE soundtrack (?!), a chick band cassette, and a double 12″ Luscious Jackson remix record. I also got some free stickers I will prolly just give to Jessica and/or her cute sister. I love free stuff! Morgan roxx.

goon ya

Soundtrack of the weekend: Tommy TuTone, Rick Springfield, Men at Work, The Posies, Tiffany, Weezer, Simple Minds, The Bangles, Katrina and the Waves, The Buggles, and Bryan Adams (i know he’s canadian, but he still wrote some good pop rock tunes)

This weekend has been pretty uneventful. I got to catch up on some good bill paying. I learned a lot about IRA’s and my mutual funds. I am learning how to do my own taxes and beat the system or the mutha fuckin’ man. I always complain about our government, but there are so many great things we offer. One being that you can have tax free investments and make some mad cash if you just learn how to. You don’t have to be a nuclear physisist.

And speaking of that, why are they (nuclear physisists) dubbed the smartest. I think OBGYN Doctors should be. They understand the “goon-ya” more than any one on earth. And anyone who understands the “goon-ya” is pure genius. And we all know how hard it is to understand and master the “goon-ya.” It is a feat we all wish and pray we all knew more about. They should offer classes on the weekends to learn more about “goon-ya.” I can garauntee at least two people would show up, myself included. The class would be called “Learn more about you and your/your spouse’s Goon-Ya.” Or maybe they could be videos and put on the Learning Channel at 4am for a 30 minute info-mercial hosted my Nina Hartley!

I digress. Last night was spent at DC101 watching the Sewervivors. Jessica hung with me there and we made some CD-Rs, hung with the over-nite jocks and wooed over the massively cool coffee machine. I think Top Gun was on as well. Also, my BBS software came out with their final beta version. So I upgraded to that and have been tweaking it since then. Click on the last box to the right in the menu above to get involved. And trust me, you want to get involved. Or you can be a lazy ass and click here.
