What a whirlwind of things has happened this weekend. Many things good!
Friday was Valentine’s Day and me and Emily didnt really do much, it’s a pretty silly event. After work we went to the bank to get our bank account for our photography group. It took much longer than expected. But we did it and after that we headed over to Penn Camera to get a little hot shoe for Emily’s camera so that we could use the strobe system as a backup on her camera body. We also got to talk to a few guys ther about lighting and what not, and drooled over the Hasselblad. It was chill like it always is at the Penn Camera. Then we had a nice dinner at my parents house and that was that.
Saturday was pretty damn busy. We got up and basically ran around until everything was set for our gig that night. We had to print out some more forms for the people who wanted their picture taken. We had to come back to my house to pick up the film we both forgot and we needed to pick up some more gear at Emily’s house. Then we stopped by my sister’s place to get her digital camera to take some test shots.
We got to the hotel (the Hilton in McLean, VA) and checked in. The radio station that hired us was gracious enough to hook us up with a room for after the gig to crash at. We got to our room and unpacked our shit and just layed around for a bit. Then we set up our gear in the ballroom. It didnt take all that long, we just had to contemplate how to position the strobes and what reflectors/diffusers to use. The gig went incredibly smoothly. We took about 100 portraits. We took back a few dollars. And then some. And everyone is happy. Considering the amount of work we still have left for this gig, the money is well worth it and it was a good learning experience, if anything. It’s just so weird having that much cash in your pocket. A very uncomfortable feeling. After the shoot, we decided to find a place to eat. Katie, Jeremiah, Emily and myself looked for a table, but there was none, so we asked the waiter for table or a suggestion on where to sit, and they just said “give us 2 minutes”. Within 30 seconds there was a table rolling out with like 10 people setting it up. Dinner rocked and then we rolled out some more portraits and then we hit the bar.
And of course we had the one weirdo calling us a few times the day after the event to make sure we had her correct address. Of course we got it right. Anyways.
So the fun began as soon as the storm came. The person who hired us at the radio station said he’d pay for us to stay an extra night if we needed it, which was nice. But on Sunday morning after breakfast at noon we contemplated staying but then decided to leave asap as it was going to just get worse and we just wanted to go home. So we did. And it was bad on the roads, but my lil’ Honda Accord treated me nicely. It actually handled wonderfully. And now there is like 2-3 feet of snow on the ground and my car is stuck on the side of the road. It’s pretty nuts out there and there is little chance that I will be at work tomorrow. 4 day weekends rule.
