Thom Yorke’s The Eraser

Has anybody else heard Thom Yorke’s new solo record called The Eraser?

I hate to say it say it, but I kinda like it. I mean I doubt it would make any Top 10 lists of mine. But it’s great ear candy for the week.

As much as I do like this record, I was pretty disapointed with how predictable it was. I mean, come on Thom! Weird electronics. Bouncy and jagged beats. Thom wailing with his voice. It’s basically a Radiohead record. Maybe a little more sparse. But still, I was really hoping for a rebirth. Say something new! In that aspect this record really didn’t speak to me as it’s nothing new. But on it’s own, it’s not bad.

On a relative side note, does anyone think Thom’s voice sounds like Joni Mitchell at times? Not really the timbre of their voices, but more the range and intervals they choose to use. I know it’s not something you would hear at first listen. But it’s something I just noticed with this solo record.

Anyways… If you have the extra bucks for it, I’d suggest getting a Prince record instead. That is, if you have a Radiohead record already post 1997.
