wszystkiego najlepszego z okazji urodzin

i know a thing or two about you...photo-electricity (12k image)So yesterday, the day before my birthday, I went to my ‘rents house for a birthday lunch thingie. I always want a low-key birthday deal. I’ve never been too big on parties, just in general, so a low-key lunch was planned. I had my chocolate chip bagel with cream cheese and lox. And it was yummy and my Mother made some kougel. It was killer. I got some boxers and a butt load of tux ties and silk scarfs that were my grandfathers on my Mother’s side. After lunch we looked at all the housey stuff my Mother got from my Grandfather’s place in Boston. My parents rule. And we talked a little about buying the house vs. renting it. Emily and myself are seriously considering it and thinking about more and more, it just seems so much more practical. But we’ll see…

After lunch and me being stupid to Emily (sorry, i was grumpy) I dropped her off cos she has stuff to do and drove to work to finish up a few things and do some final things (yeah, yeah…) to MONSiii. I thought i was going to be late in meeting my music life-partner, Daniel, but in fact i was early. So he showed up just five minutes later and handed me over his birthday present for me. It was a Polaroid Land Camera Model 150 with a Flash and a dozen flash bulbs in virtually mint condition. It’s gigantic and heavy and all metal and it’s awesome. I just need to find some film for it and i am all set. Thanks Daniel. Oh yeah and he also got me this book called Photo-Electricity by V.K. Zworkin and E.G. Ramberg. I actually have heard of Zworkin. Yeah, shut the fuck up. I am a geek, but at least I know it. There are some rather wacky ideas in this book and cant wait to dive in to it. It’s actually better that it was written pre-Roswell Incident as it’s all tube-based and no IC based circuitry. Yum.

So after chilling for a bit we headed to Yuan Fu’s and for a romantic meatless meal. Or something like that. Afterwards, we made our standard yet necessary trip to Tower Records and spent nearly 3 hours there going thru every CD. We only did rock/pop, rap, and jazz. We didn’t have the patience to go thru DVDs or Classical. Next time we’ll hit it. But i picked up a few CDs…

1. VHS or Beta – le funk :: Feetnik always told me to get this cd and i finally picked it up…and it’s half the direction i want Silver Sessions to go in to…it’s tres good…get your funk on…to the extreme

2. Hank Williams – i saw the light :: In college i got really sick once and took a shot of Jim Beam (the 7 year kind) and i vividly remembering listening to Hank Williams in my room with an icepack on my forehead. I will always remember the taste of Jim Beam whenever i hear Hank and whenever i am sick. And yeah, his music is so honest it hurts my toes…

3. Miles Davis – panthalassa :: Bill Laswell is my new hero. Anyone who would even attempt to do such a feat it cool in my book. It’s Miles. Enough said.

4. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – controversial negro :: The Blues is #1. You either get it or not. I get it. I know it. I live it. You should too.

5. Herbie Hancock – sextant :: I really only knew the 80s Herbie with the ROCKIT fame. Until i heard this CD in Daniel’s car driving to Fells Point one night last month, i just knew of the ROCKIT era. I knew no other. There is more. The more is great. It’s beyond great. It’s hypnotic and creative and all of the above. It’s great. It’s Herbie and it’s not a dancing robot. Not that that’s a bad thing.

So today is my birthday. I spent a lot of it playing in the bed with Emily. It was good cos we haven’t spent half the day in bed in a long while. We played with her pussy cats and then we went to Penn Camera to look at studio lighting. Then we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and made fun of the silly people there. Then we went back to her place and registered a domain for our Photography Company. Wanna hire us? Sorry, we’re booked the month of February, but anytime after we can schedule you. Hook it up…

daniel.: if you sneeze, you may blow your asshole out.
